Things to See & Do on the Isle of Skye

We are situated in a crofting township called Satran. This is at the head of Loch Harport. We are about 2 miles from the village of Carbost. In the village there is a shop which is well stocked, a post office and a pub. Also in the village is the Malt Whisky Distillery, Talisker, where I work (in July to September we work Saturdays and I may not be here when you arrive but arrangements will be made to cover this).

There is a varied selection of wildlife in the area, buzzards, eagles, oystercatchers, otters, sheep etc. The cottages are within easy access to the Cuillins and a variety of moorland and coastal walks. It's possible to walk or cycle from the cottages to Talisker Bay over the hills to Fiscavaig, along the road to Fernilea through Carbost and back to us here in Satran quite comfortably. All around the hills of Satran and Drynoch opposite there is evidence of human occupation of the area for centuries.

The oldest occupied castle in Scotland is in Dunvegan, which is a 25-minute drive from the cottage. What is thought to be the oldest church on Skye is beside the sea in Glen Eynort.

There is a wealth of other facilities on Skye; cinema, theatre, music, swimming, agricultural shows and fairs. We have famous restuarants and award-winning artists and craftmakers. We have provided links to a few of these and would encourage you visit during your holiday - if you can spare the time away from the hills and shore!
