Corrie Cottages are situated in the township of Satran at the head of Loch Harport overlooking the river Drynoch. The cottages were established in 1990 by a local family and are built on croft land still in use by the owners’ son. We are in the area of Skye known as Minginish and this is in the parish of Bracadale. At one time the Satran was owned by the Clan MacLeod but is now owned by the Scottish Government and rented to crofters working in unison together as Satran Sheep Stock Club. There are exceptions with the land bordering Satran, Glenbrittle Farm and Allt Dreag, still held by Hugh MacLeod, Chief of the Clan Macleod. The area around abounds with wild life, otters, oystercatchers, sea-eagles, golden-eagles, sparrow-hawks, roe deer & red deer and many, many more.
The cottages are an ideal base for driving around Skye as most places are accessible after a 45 minute scenic drive. In the village of Carbost a short distance away you will find the local pub the Old Inn with good food, a well stocked village shop, post office and the world famous Talisker Distillery. Here it is possible to take a distillery tour to discover the art behind making a single malt spirit (it is not whisky until it has been the oak cask for at least three years) usually you will start before the tour with a dram and time to have a browse around the reception area where you will find references to Skye’s historic past.
If you would like to do some river or loch fishing in the area this is possible as we subscribe to Drynoch & Borline club (details on info page)
